Styling a Black Maxi

I love having basic pieces in my closet that will work year round + allow me to style them several different ways. It saves money and encourages me to use what I already have in my closet so I’m not buying new things all the time. I know what you’re thinking, “you’re a style blogger, isn’t that what you are supposed to do???” Well, sort of. I share new tings with you all the time but in my own closet, I’m always drawn to pieces that I can wear forever or in better terms, “timeless.”

A black maxi dress is just that. Timeless. Black never goes out of style and this dress is not going to disappoint. It is normally $52 but it’s currently on sale for less than $39. It is true to size, I’m wearing an XS, and hits me at the perfect length. I am 5’6 with a long torso and sometimes I have a hard time finding a good maxi dress that isn’t too short or too long. This one is perfect and so comfortable. It has an elastic waist that helps define your midsection and elongate your legs and let’s be honest, we can all use that.

So I am styling this cute, simple dress for you that are also very simple and easily attainable. The accessories I have added are also closet staples so you will be able to style them with other outfits, not just this dress.

First up, I simply added some layered necklaces, a straw bag, grabbed my keys and threw on my favorite sunnies. This look is perfect for everyday errands or you could even pack it for vacation. I love wearing the nippies with this dress so I’m not suffocated by a strapless bra, but that is another option as well. A regular bra would not work, as it will show your straps.

For the second look, I added my favorite distressed denim jacket, a Gucci dupe belt to accentuate my waist and kept the layered necklaces + always add a coffee.
This belt is so popular right now and it comes in a few different widths. Mine is the smallest, 0.9″. My denim jacket is true to size, but meant to be slightly over sized in the overall look of it. I’m wearing a SMALL and it’s very comfortable. It’s a staple item in my closet and I wear it year round.

I realize it’s not cool enough to wear a denim jacket during the day in some places. For example, Texas would be one of those. The Summer is Texas is hot and I wouldn’t be caught dead in a denim jacket mid day any day of the week. So if you live in these temperatures too, keep everything the same and just toss the jacket or save it for the evening when it get’s a little cooler.

Lastly, throw your denim jacket back on and add a pop of print or color. I added my favorite leopard clutch to dress this ensemble up a little bit plus to add texture and print. This clutch has a zip top that folds over so nothing will ever fall out. It is such great quality and I wear it all year.
