How I’m refreshing our home for the New Year with simple and affordable decor

Happy New Year!!!

I’m so excited for a new year and all the good I pray 2021 will bring. When you think about it, it’s like we have entered a new season because last year was so much to endure.

In 2020 we bought a new home!!
Trey and I have been married almost 13 years and in that time we have lived in apartments, duplexes and even a dorm but never a new home, much less one we owned.

Despite the fact it’s new, there have been a lot of projects, unexpected changes and updates that have taken place in six short months.
The biggest project took place just a few weeks after moving in.

The biggest project of them all….

A few weeks after living in the house we unfortunately had to rip up the laminate floors that were originally installed. After a lot of research we suspect the laminate was bad and possibly slightly toxic. The angst that comes with making the decision to rip up brand new floors in your brand new home is a lot to swallow. However, looking back I know it was the right thing to do for our family and our health.

Since it was a new build I just thought it was a new home smell that made me feel slightly fuzzy. Trey would get dizzy and even told me he felt as if he couldn’t breathe at moments. After a lot of research and worrying about the boys’ health we decided to have it all ripped up and install ceramic tile.
The day we ripped it up and everything was out of the house he said he instantly felt a difference so I know it was the right move.

A before look at all of the original flooring in the house

We originally wanted the first floor to have all hard flooring so it made sense to go ahead and rip up the carpet in the living room. Below is a look at the wood tile being installed.

So with the flooring issue, mini projects, everyday life, work and decorating for Christmas it’s felt as if we live in a shell. With that being said, we absolutely love this house and I’m so excited to make it a home.

I told Trey in order to accomplish all of this I would need a few things from Target to complete my vision…..obviously.
Once everything arrives and finds its permanent place in the house I will do a home tour to share all of the updates.

Here’s a round up of everything I’ve purchased for the house to give it a little new year refresh.

I’m a visual learner therefore it helps me see the big picture when I create a mock up of the space with items I’ve shopped. It’s also a huge time and money saver. You can instantly see if the shape, color or style of an item will fit your space.

The program / app I use to create all of my collages and this mock up is CANVA. You can download the app on your phone and try the free version or pay for the upgraded plans depending on your needs.

Thanks for checking out today’s post!

It will be so much fun to see these spaces come alive and I look forward to sharing them with you soon. Have the best day friends!!
